General Contest Entry Rules for winter 2012
a) All CESAR members, including RSU members enrolled in Chang School course(s) are eligible to participate in this contest.
b) CESAR executives, full-time staffs, part-time staffs, and CORS are not eligible to participate in this contest.
c) Contestants are allowed one entry in this contest, except in the poetry category.
d) Do not identify yourself on your entry. Attach a cover sheet with your name, student number, and telephone or email contact to your entry.
e) There are two cash awards of $250 in this category.
f) CESAR assumes propriety ownership of all winning entries.
g) Contestants must either submit entries in person or by mail to CESAR at SSC 301, 55 Gould Street. Toronto, ON, M5B 1E9 or via email (internal@mycesar.ca).
h) Deadline for submission is March 10, 2012. Each entry for this category must be original, unpublished, not submitted elsewhere for publication or broadcast, nor accepted elsewhere for publication or broadcast, nor entered simultaneously in any other contest or competition for which it is also eligible to win a prize.
i) Winners will receive notifications via email/phone or in writing.
j) All non-winning entries will be returned to contestants upon request
Formal Essay Students will write an Essay of 750 -1500 words, on one of the following prompts:
a) Imagine you are the Premier of Ontario. How will you address the shortfalls in post-secondary education in Ontario? Some examples might be post secondary education funding framework, part-time students funding framework and province wide credit evaluation.
b) Which country has the best post-secondary education standard and why?Additional requirements:
Creative Non-FictionStudent will write a 750-1500 words article for publication in the Ryerson Free Press on the following prompts:
a) The full story of my part-time experiences at Ryerson University Entries must reflect issues such as; why the writer chooses to attend school on a part-time basis, the reasons the writer chooses to attend school at Ryerson University, the writer's reflections on academia at Ryerson University, the barriers they face in their educational pursuit and any positive or negative outlook post graduation

Re: BECOME THE COLLECTIVE POLITICAL VOICE OF CESAR
In accordance with the new CESAR governance structure, we will be hosting our first Political Members Meeting on Wednesday, February 8, from 5-6PM.
This is an opportunity for members to become politically engaged and to take an active leadership role in the governance of CESAR.
You are eligible to become a CESAR Political Member if you have taken a Chang School course or enrolled in a part-time degree program in the last 8 months, and have attended two General Membership meetings.
Full-time students (who are members of the Ryerson Students' Union) are not eligible for Political Membership.
Political Members will act in the following capacities in accordance with Article 2.2 of the CESAR Bylaws:
a. Access political and financial documents of the organization;
b. Vote at Committee Meetings, General Membership Meetings and the Annual General Meeting;
c. Nominate, Elect, and Impeach CESAR Directors;
d. Be nominated as a CESAR Director; and
e. Be hired as Commissioners.
Political members will also be eligible to book CESAR office space during regular business hours, receive up to 200 free black and white photocopies annually, and be reimbursed for TTC transit expenses to and from meetings.
Please note that dinner will be provided at these meetings and there will be a social gathering in the Ram and the Rye pub directly following the meeting from 6-8PM.

This seminar gives students essential information about grade, standing and misconduct appeals. It also provides information for students who have been Withdrawn as a result of their academic performance.
UNI201 seminars are organized by the students unions and are held in concert with the Registrar's Office, Office of the Ombudsperson, and the Learning Success Centre. A representative from each organization provides an overview of the policies and procedures relevant to your situation, and how their respective offices can assist you.

Letter Writing Workshops: Student Centre, 55 Gould Street
Learn how to write a strong grade or standing appeal letter. Access template letters on the CESAR website and bring a working draft of your letter to the seminar for one-on-one advice with an advocate.
A grade or standing appeal submission includes a carefully written letter explaining why your appeal should be considered by the department. CESAR and the RSU partner to present these series of letter writing workshops which are designed to guide you through the process of filling out the necessary forms and drafting an effective appeal letter. Students will learn topics such as: grounds for an appeal, the steps you take to resolve the situation, and acceptable resolutions.

NOTE: To get the most out of UNI201 & Letter Writing Seminars, it is advisable to bring a completed draft of your appeal letter. You must clearly identify your grounds for the appeal and substantiate these grounds with dates and applicable documentation where possible.
CESAR will be hosting a Special AGM on Tuesday, November 15 registration starts at 4:30PM, meeting starts at 5:00pm to 6:30PM in the Thomas Lounge, Student Centre, 55 Gould Street.
We ask that all members RSVP in advance to the meeting to admin@mycesar.ca or call our office at 416.979.5193. Proof of enrolment may also be required.
Lastly, we ask that you review the attached document outlining the proposed bylaw changes in advance as they will be voted on at the meeting.
***Please note that the Board has made one final recommendation to the members on the by-laws. The document included below should be reviewed prior to the meeting***
Instruction on how to read the document:
- The last recommendation contains parts that are completely re-written, and old parts with additions highlighted in yellow or struckout
- The final recommendation document encompasses those changes, but also overlays newer suggestions with further recommendations highlighted in green or struckout with red
- Anything in green or yellow are suggestions to be added, but anything with red or struckout are suggestions to be removed.
